Congratulations to Jay Wilde and Vegan Organic Farming
In the news earlier this week we were treated to a very happy story involving Mr Wilde, a vegetarian (former) beef farmer, who gave all of his cows to an animal sanctuary in Norfolk.
He has been quoted as saying “cows have good memories and a range of emotions. They form relationships. I’ve even seen them cry,” he said.
Deciding he could not bear to send them off anymore to be slaughtered, Mr Wilde sent them to The Hillside Animal Sanctuary where they will live free and happy lives.
Jay Wilde, 59, has been a vegetarian for 25 years and inherited beef farming when his father died. Mr Wilde said he “couldn’t believe it was right to eat them”, and is happy to have made the decision to end pastoral farming.
Arable farming involves harvesting produce such as crops, wheat and soy beans.
Mr Wilde is now running a vegan organic market farm supplying garden produce – avoiding all animal products including fertilisers.
I was really happy to read Mr Wilde’s story in the news this week and I think it is a really inspiring, heart felt sentiment that cows are worth so much more than food.
