Lush Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub Review
I popped into Lush the other day, I didn’t need anything but the smell is magnetising and I’m like a moth to a flame. I was also very interested that they have recently been re-releasing a lot of their products with self-preserving formulas.
I picked up the Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub because I was very intrigued by a scrub you can use on both your face and body, and it also contains lots of lovely, fresh ingredients that I just wanted to put on my face!
Packaging
I just wanted to write a brief word on the packaging as most people are familiar with Lush’s branding. Lush currently offers a recycling programme, in which if you return five clean empty pots you get a new pot for free. This is run across most of Lush’s pots and bottles and you can tell by the white strip on the packaging that says if the product is part of the scheme.
I think this is a good business strategy, but it also really encourages recycling and inspires environmental consciousness which is a big win.
Ingredients
A big hurrah that this product is vegan! Lush always use really clear labelling. Vegan products have the Vegan Society logo on vegan products and the Vegetarian Society on vegetarian products – which can ingredients such as beeswax.
The ingredients are as follows:
Fine Sea Salt, Hand Harvested Sea Salt, Fresh Grapefruit Infusion, Organic Silken Tofu, Glycerine, Japan Wax, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Fresh Organic Lime Extracted in Vodka, Mango Butter, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Avocado Butter, Lime Oil, Seaweed Absolute, Violet Leaf Absolute, *Citral, *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume, Colour 42090.
This is a bit crazy… Vokda? Tofu?!
I read on the Lush website why the limes are steeped in vodka, and it’s because it’s cooling and refreshing, and both lime and alcohol are naturally antibacterial – therefore benefiting the skin by helping reduce blocked pores, blackheads and/or blemishes.
Formulation
The idea of rubbing salt into your face can seem a little off-putting at first, but the formulation of this product is really lovely. It’s quite bubbly and light, and the salt is effective at exfoliating but not too harsh.
When you are massaging the product into your skin, it smells really nice. After you rinse it off my skin felt clean but it also felt really soft and smooth – which I think is down to the moisturising ingredients like mango butter and avocado butter.
I think you need to use a moisturiser after using Ocean Salt, just because any exfoliation on the skin can be drying – however this is definitely one of the least drying scrubs I have used.
As you can kind of see in this picture, the texture is really light and bubbly yet it still offers effective cleaning and moisture. I think the texture is a lot smoother than the non self-preserving option, and this makes it better suited for less harsh exfoliation.
Summary
I have really been enjoying using this product. Lush always offers new and innovative ideas when it comes to skincare, and I think this is a good addition to anybody’s skincare regime. You can use it from time to time to freshen up your skin as I think I will be doing, or you can use it every other day because it’s gentle.
I picked up the 120g pot for £8.75 which I do not think is too expensive for a product packed with quality ingredients. It’s approved vegan and Lush are famous campaigners for animal rights, amongst other social issues, so I think it is definitely worth it.
Overall, Ocean Salt is a lovely face and body scrub, it’s effective at removing dead skin and dirt, yet leaves your skin feeling super soft afterwards. It’s suitable for all skin types and when you take the lid of the smell of salty ocean holidays fills your senses!
