Oatly Orange Mango Oat Drink Review
Oatly
Oatly is a Swedish company that produces an array of oat based products, including a range of oat drinks to creamy oat, oat (creme) fraiche, and vanilla custard. All of their products are vegan friendly and soy free. They make a great dairy alternative to vegans, as well as those with an intolerance to lactose and soy.
Here is a little more information on the company ethos from Oatly:
“Everything we make, we make on Swedish oats. If you are wondering what makes Swedish oats so special, the answer is very simple. They grow strong and tall in the Nordic climate, which is a crazy mix of long sunny days (in the summer) mixed with short periods of intense rain. Moreover, many of the nasty pesticides that are used on oats in the rest of Europe are totally forbidden in Sweden. And the minimal traces of heavy metals that you find in regular Swedish oats are not significantly greater than those found in organic Swedish oats and fall well below what is considered to be safe for consumption. And this makes Swedish oats rather unique.”
Today I am writing a quick review on the Oatly Orange Mango Oat Drink. I picked it up in my nearest IKEA for around £2 – I can’t remember the exact price. I was so excited to see this flavour I absolutely could not resist picking some up! I love the chocolate one, and I always use the Barista milk to make lattes at home because it froths up really nicely.
What does it taste like?
It is absolutely delicious. I was relatively bamboozled at first when I saw a fruit milk, but the closest thing I can compare the taste to is fruit yoghurt drinks like Yop. Because it’s not dairy and not yoghurt, it doesn’t have that weird twang. It’s sweeter and smoother.
It’s also incredibly filling! If you’ve been a bit naughty and stayed in bed for too long, thus compromising important breakfast eating time, a quick class of this is going to keep you going until potentially brunch or at least second breakfast.
Ingredients
This drink contains real fruit and healthy carbs and fibres, it is a shake-smoothie-juice all at once! It does contain citric acid and fructose but the company is hoping to develop a recipe that uses healthier options. The current ingredients are as follows:
Oat base (water, oats 10%), fruit concentrate (fructose, concentrate of orange and mango juice, concentrate of mango puree, acid (citric acid), flavour, colour (beta carotene)). Contains 8% orange juice, 1% mango juice and 1% mango puree.
Nutritionally, 100ml contains 60 calories, 0.5g of fat, 11g of carbohydrates, 0.8g of fibre, 1g of protein, 0.01g of salt, and 0.4g of beta-glucan.
Summary
I really enjoyed trying this new flavour from Oatly. It’s filling and tasty and makes a great choice whether you are in a hurry and on the go, or just craving a little bit of sunshine sweetness. I will definitely be buying this again! As of yet I haven’t seen this product in my local supermarket but I’m hoping it will hit shelves soon.
