Purminerals: Secret Crush Eyeshadow Palette | Review
About the brand
Pürminerals, or Pür Cosmetics, produce mineral based cosmetics and skincare products with the aim of improving tone and discolouration. The main objective of Pür is to create flawless skin today and see better skin tomorrow. The company claims they are 100% cruelty free, free of animal testing, environmentally responsible and formulated in the USA.
Packaging
The palette comes in a cardboard box, on the back of which all the names of the eyeshadows are listed. I prefer when colours are named in palettes as it makes it easier to describe a blended look or share general information about the colours. However, I feel it probably would have been more useful to have the names on the back of the actual palette instead of the outer packaging which will probably get thrown away and recycled.
The product itself is in a tin palette with a good sized mirror and a usable eyeshadow brush. I have been using the provided brush to pack the colour onto the eye but I’ve been using a Real Techniques eyeshadow blending brush for the crease and inner corners. The Pür brush is not bad at blending, but I prefer to use separate brushes when using different colours because the brush can become quite muddied and the colours mix together on the bristles.
The Product
The colours in the Secret Crush palette are quite soft and romantic and well suited to the name. The colours from left to right are: Whisper, a shimmery ivory, Lust, a light powdery pink, Passion, a soft cranberry, Muse, a muted mauve, Admirer, a warm brown, Infatuation, a cool taupe, Rendezvous, which is a slightly warm grey and the most matte of the colours, a finally Rumor, the darkest shade, a midnight blue.
None of the shades are fully matte in the palette so they make for a beautifully shimmery eye look, and the colours in this palette work well for an Autumnal colour scheme. Whisper is the perfect inner corner colour and works well even as a highlight on the brow bone. My favourite shades for the crease are Passion and Muse, which work well with a nude lip or even a berry.
The texture of the eyeshadows are super soft and blend really easily, after a fair bit of use the plastic around the shadows has become quite powdery but this is because the shadows are so finely blended and can easily be swept away. There is also very little fall down during application and eyeliner sweeps on easily enough over the colour.
Summary
Overall, this is a really nice palette with wearable colours. They are soft, warm and natural so perfect for beginners or those who prefer more subtle eye looks, however at the same time, some quite dramatic looks can be created using some of the more pigmented shades. The colours blend so easily it makes blending crease, inner and outer corner colours a doddle, although I would recommend using a separate blending brush, application brush and a smudging or smoky eye brush for under the lower lash line – this isn’t really necessary but as the colours are quite pigmented you could end up with a muddied brush if the product is not all wiped of between colour applications.
The palette retails at about £24-26 in the UK so it is a midrange priced item, there is a fair amount of product in the palette and it is easy to apply, very little fall down, decent colour pay off and very little creasing. I think it is worth £24 if you are going to be using it as an everyday palette, but if you only like some of the colours or prefer mattes it might be worthwhile finding another palette (such as the Pür Soul Mattes) or buying a few different brand separate shadows to create a personal, hand-picked collection of your favourite colours.
The Secret Crush palette is currently on sale at Marks & Spencer in the UK for £24.00 or internationally available online at purcosmetics.com for $32.00.
Please note that this palette is not vegan friendly as it contains carmine pigment.
