Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Liquid Lipstick Review | Birthday Suit
About the brand
Sleek MakeUP is a firm favourite of Friendly and Free as we have already reviewed their highlighting palette and lipstick palettes. They are a staple of affordable makeup on the British high street, known for both their trendiness across wide range of products and acclaimed pigmented palettes. They are of course cruelty free and have stated that they will not sell in China until the animal testing legislation has been changed. Woo! Today I am reviewing the Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Liquid Lipstick.
Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Liquid Lipstick
Liquid Lipstick has been a very popular product for a while now, surrounding the big releases of makeup artists and celebrities over the last couple of years. The matte trend also does not seem to be going anywhere soon and can be found on products from polishes to powders.
The Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick is described as being an ultra-smooth matte lip cream, which I agree with. It is a very cream texture and glides easily on to the lip which makes application easy. It is also pigmented and only needs one swipe for full coverage and colour.
It is matte which means that if your lips are really dry it can make them look even dryer so I always use a lip scrub (such as Lush’s Lip Scrub, yum!) before applying this liquid lipstick. The texture is very light which Sleek claims doesn’t cake, flake or dry out and lasting all day. As for these claims, the formula is very good for not drying out but after a few hours of wear it does start to dry out and there is also quite a bit of transfer.
This particular lipstick is in the shade Birthday Suit which Sleek describes as a ‘classic wearable nude’. It is a little dark for a nude shade I think but is still really versatile and goes great with a lot of different looks.
The packaging
The Matte Me Liquid Lipstick is in a square shaped container which is great because it doesn’t roll off of the dressing table! The bubble style container does make it look slightly like there is more product and uses more plastic. The product is actually very light and the lid is a screw on with the classic matte and glossy logo seen on most Sleek products.
Summary
Overall this Matte Me Liquid Lipstick is a pretty sweet affordable option to plump for. It’s good value, 6ml for £4.99. It’s cruelty free and widely available and comes in 12 different shades to suit all skin tones!
Sleek MakeUP Liquid Lipstick is available from Superdrug, Boots, or on the Sleek website.
